Our Philosopy

Stanford Systems was conceived and founded by Rich Stanford with the belief that individuals and small companies should be able to focus on their businesses, not their computing systems. Their systems should work reliably, silently, and provide them the services they need with a minimum of user intervention.

This site is being run on a 733 MHz CentOS 4.3 Enterprise Linux machine with 512M of memory. The business side of the site is running on JBoss 4.0.5 GA Application Server utilizing the embedded Tomcat 5.5 server supporting three web-sites. In addition to this site, two others were built and maintained by Stanford Systems: Dr. David McKee's Site and Siegel High School Rugby Football Club. It makes use of JavaServer Pages, JavaServlets and J2EE technology. The Database functionality is provided by MySQL 5.0.27 Server. This machine is also serving as the firewall, router, print server, NT File Server via Samba for a small office. This illustrates what is possible with open-source software.

Open Source Solutions

Break the Costly Upgrade Cycle

In today's business environment, we are finding that even in the small offices and homes, more and more time, money, and resources are having to be devoted to the installation, upgrading and maintenance of their computing systems. We feel that a good portion of those costs are incurred due to proprietary operating systems, with their endless upgrade cycles and demand for more powerful systems. They also are having to run costly third-party software. It doesn't have to be this way.

Linux has become a viable low-cost alternative for basic office workstations. With a Windows-like, user friendly desktop, and clones of the "standard" office productivity tools, the transition is easy for the average office.

For every 10 desktops upgraded to Linux, the immediate license savings could be as much as $5000.00.

Why Upgrade to Open Source?

Impressive cost savings, increased security and increased reliability are the main reasons that companies, both large and small, are migrating to open source software. Read more about it...

Who's Moving to Open Source and Why?
